The Mid-State Technical College Foundation, Inc., recently elected four new members to its board of directors. Starting their three-year terms of service on July 1, 2022, are Amanda Jones, Waupaca; Charissa Lager, Wisconsin Rapids; April Niemi, Scandinavia and Jen Oswald, Wisconsin Rapids. 

Mid-State Technical College’s Board of Directors adopted its 2022–23 budget following a public hearing during its June 20 meeting in Wisconsin Rapids. The annual budget goes into effect on July 1, 2022.

Longtime supporter of Mid-State Technical college and founder of Pointe Precision Inc. Joe Kinsella has been selected by the Wisconsin Technical College District Boards Association (WTCDBA) for the 2022 Technical Education Champion Award. The award signals statewide recognition for Kinsella’s outstanding contributions to a local technical college district and/or the technical college system. Kinsella will be presented with his award during the WTCDBA summer meeting in Wausau on July 22. 

Mid-State Technical College is the recipient of a generous financial donation from Domtar’s Nekoosa Mill to help fund the planned Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Technology and Apprenticeship (AMETA) Center in Stevens Point. Domtar presented College representatives with their $100,000 donation during an event in Nekoosa, Wisc., June 13.  

Mid-State Technical College has awarded the 2022 Regional FFA Career Development Events (CDE) Chapter of Excellence Award to the Marshfield FFA chapter. The award was conferred on May 23, 2022.

Local students entering grades 6 – 8 had the chance to explore careers at Mid-State Technical College June 8. After a two-year COVID disruption, the annual day-long College Camp event was held in person at the Wisconsin Rapids Campus for the first time since 2019, drawing participation from local school districts, homeschool students and members from local youth organizations.

Mid-State Technical College joined forces with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters and WFHR radio station to offer the community a special opportunity to meet the 2022 Rafters baseball players at the College’s Wisconsin Rapids Campus on June 7. The “Meet-and-Greet” event was open to the public and featured autograph opportunities, games and the mascots of both Mid-State and the Rafters, Grit and Rosco P. Rafter. 

Mid-State Technical College student finalists in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) Wisconsin State Leadership Conference this February have again shined in their competitive events on the national stage, earning in the organization’s National Leadership Conference, held May 4 – 8 in Dallas, Texas.

Lakeland University has honored Mid-State Technical College graduate and Simulation Specialist Keith Melvin with its 2022 Outstanding Kellett Undergraduate Student Award.

The Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department, in partnership with Mid-State Technical College, hosted a partnership celebration at the Marshfield Fire and Rescue Training Center located at 2615 South Vine Avenue. The event was attended by many contributors, collaborators and champions of the project, including Marshfield Fire and Rescue leadership, city officials, college officials and local legislators.
