Mid-State to host College Camp June 14
Registration is now open for Mid-State Technical College’s annual College Camp. Central Wisconsin students entering grades 6 through 8 are invited to attend this all-day event on Wednesday, June 14, on Mid-State’s Wisconsin Rapids campus.
College Camp gives students an opportunity to explore careers and Mid-State programs through workshops and activities. Each attendee participates in four career exploration sessions of their choice. Sessions offered this year include Agriculture, Civil Engineering, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Emergency Medical Technician, IT Security Specialist, Medical Coder, Nursing, Welding and a student life scavenger hunt.
“College Camp is a long-standing Mid-State event that offers middle school students a chance to experience college life, select sessions of their interest and start exploring program options,” said Jackie Esselman, dean of Recruitment & Admissions. “It’s a fun event that students entering 6, 7 or 8 grades don’t want to miss.”
“Each year has had a special theme, and this year, each session will have program activities relating to baseball,” Esselman added. “For example, Civil Engineering program faculty will have a home run derby activity where students will have a chance to swing some bats and measure the ball’s trajectory through surveying equipment.”
The deadline to register is Friday, May 26, and participants are encouraged to register early as sessions are first come, first served. There is a $45 registration fee that covers the event, including all sessions, snacks, lunch, camp gifts and bus transportation. Check-in is from 8:30 to 9 a.m., and the camp concludes at 4:30 p.m. that afternoon. Bus transportation is provided from the Adams, Marshfield and Stevens Point campus locations.
