WTCS Student Ambassador Program
“Telling the story of Wisconsin's technical colleges.”
There are 16 colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS). Every year each college selects one student to participate in a leadership development and recognition program. The mission of the WTCS Ambassador program is to recognize and reward outstanding students in the WTCS. It also aims to develop a greater public awareness and appreciation for the high-quality system of technical education. Technical education contributes to both the state's economy and its citizens by providing hands-on education for high-demand careers fields.
Sam Carpenter
2026 Student Ambassador
Precision Machining Technician

I chose Mid-State Technical College, specifically the AMETA® Center, for the innovation in hands-on education, community support in broadening the manufacturing footprint, and employment opportunities with the programs they offer. I really felt that they had the best options for me in terms of quality education, employment partnership, and out-of-pocket costs.
What truly makes the difference at Mid-State are the instructors. They aren’t just teachers — they’re industry professionals who bring real experience into the classroom. Their commitment to student success shows in the way they explain complex ideas clearly, offer individualized support, emphasize attention to detail, and push students to excel in their state-of-the-art facility. They have not only shown me a great path for my future career but helped build me up and realize the potential I have as a leader, and I love being a part of this kind of environment and community.

The Ambassador Experience
After a day of team-building and leadership development, the newly named WTCS Student Ambassadors are celebrated at a formal banquet. Family members, System and college leaders, and other invited guests can also attend. At the banquet they receive an award and scholarship and share their stories of determination, perseverance, and success.
Following the banquet, the students officially serve as WTCS Ambassadors for one year and, unofficially, for a lifetime.
