Mid-State Technical College to launch night option for Early Childhood Professional program

September 17, 2025

Mid-State Technical College will launch a new night option for its Early Childhood Professional technical diploma program beginning in the spring 2026 semester. The format is designed to support working adults, parents and others who need flexibility while pursuing their education.

The new option allows students to balance their careers, families and education with a manageable weekly schedule. Students gain hands-on training and knowledge to prepare for careers in childcare centers, preschools, Head Start programs and other early childhood settings, while learning in a supportive environment alongside a dedicated cohort of classmates.

The night option begins in late January 2026 and can be completed in just over a year through a three-term format. Classes will meet Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mid-State’s Wisconsin Rapids Campus, with some courses offered online.

Additional support services will help students succeed in the program, including:

  • Free, licensed childcare at a nearby facility on Wednesday evenings during class, with dinner included, limited spots available.
  • Tutoring support to promote academic success.
  • Access to laptops for those who need them, while supplies last.

“This night option is about making education more accessible,” said Ben Nusz, dean of Mid-State’s Stevens Point Downtown Campus and School of Business & IT. “By reducing barriers like childcare and scheduling, we’re opening doors for more adults to pursue their education and strengthen the local workforce.”

“Our program is built to deliver high-quality education that prepares students to teach and nurture our youngest learners,” said Jill Przekurat, Mid-State Early Childhood Education instructor. “This new format ensures students get the same strong foundation, while also making it possible for more people to join the field and make a difference in children’s lives.”

Registration for spring classes opens soon, with limited spots available for the Early Childhood Professional night option. Learn more and reserve your seat now at mstc.edu/ecp-night-option
