Marshfield High School FFA earns Mid-State’s 2024 Regional FFA CDE Chapter of Excellence Award

May 23, 2024

Mid-State Technical College has awarded its 2024 Regional FFA Career Development Events (CDE) Chapter of Excellence Award to the Marshfield High School FFA chapter. The award was conferred at Marshfield High School’s annual FFA banquet on May 15, 2024.

The Chapter of Excellence award recognizes exemplary performance in the regional FFA CDE contests held at Mid-State’s Wisconsin Rapids Campus in March. Over 750 middle and high school students from 43 schools across Wisconsin and Minnesota attended the regional competition, making it Mid-State’s largest FFA CDE event to date.

“We are so excited to present this year’s Chapter of Excellence Award to Marshfield High School’s FFA chapter,” said Dr. Alex Lendved, Mid-State dean of Marshfield Campus and School of Applied Technology. “The Chapter of Excellence Award is presented to the FFA chapter that earns the most points during Mid-State’s FFA CDE event in March. This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the student competitors as well as the guidance and leadership of their teachers and FFA advisors.”

The competition covered a range of contests, including forestry, floriculture, dairy cattle and livestock judging, vet science and more. Top ranking teams were invited to participate at the state competition in Madison in April.

Marshfield High School placed within the top 10 in 8 contests, including first overall team in Forestry and Wildlife. Marshfield also had 15 top-10 individual placements at the regional competition. Marshfield went on to the state contest earning first place in Wildlife and Forestry, and placing within the top 10 in Livestock, Milk Quality Products and Dairy Cattle.

Chapters that also earned plaques for team and individual placements included Adams-Friendship, Cambridge, Chippewa Falls, Colby, Granton, Greenwood, Lake Mills, Mosinee, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Spencer, Thorp, Wausau, Winneconne and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.

FFA Career Development Events occur at the local, state and national levels to develop college- and career-readiness skills and serve as an outgrowth of instruction for FFA members in grades 7–12. The events help participating FFA members to develop critical-thinking and effective decision-making skills, foster teamwork and promote communication while recognizing the value of ethical competition and individual achievement.

Mid-State will host another regional event in March 2025. Learn more about the FFA CDEs hosted at Mid-State and the Chapter of Excellence Award at mstc.edu/ffa-cde.
