Mid-State Technical College Accounting Instructor Susan Strautmann was recently re-appointed to the Wisconsin Accounting Examining Board for a full four-year term after filling a vacant accountant member seat until July 1, 2020. Strautmann was also selected for a two-year term as a Board Director at the Accreditation Council for Accountancy and Taxation (ACAT), marking the board’s first choice of an educator among its ranks.

“Susan got her start in Mid-State’s accounting program, and we’re so proud to call her one of our own and see where her continuing education and active pursuit of opportunities in the field have taken her,” said Dr. Missy Skurzewski-Servant, Mid-State’s dean of business and technology. “She exemplifies the limitless potential available to anyone who pursues a technical degree from Mid-State Technical College.”

Today Strautmann is also a member of the Wisconsin Institute of CPAs (WICPA) and is both a licensed Certified Public Accountant and an Accredited Business Accountant. Like all Mid-State instructors, she draws on years of current real-world experience to provide a hands-on education to her students.

“Serving on the Accounting Boards is a way for me to give back service to the accounting profession that I have been a part of in many ways for over 20 years,” Strautmann said. “I learn from these experiences, which then enhances my teaching of accounting at Mid-State, as I share what I learn with my students and encourage them to volunteer to enrich their accounting experiences.”

The Wisconsin Accounting Examining Board consists of five members who hold certificates as certified public accountants as well as two public members. Among other things, this board oversees rulemaking related to the Certified Public Accountant Credentialing exam and continuing education requirements.

The ACAT oversees ABA (Accredited Business Accountant), ATP (Accredited Tax Preparer), ATA (Accredited Tax Advisor) and ARA (Accredited Retirement Advisor) credentials. Strautmann’s two year-term comes with the possibility of renewal for another two consecutive terms.
