Mid-State Technical College and Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) today formalized a shared program agreement for the new AI Data Specialist associate degree. The program marks a strategic partnership designed to meet the growing demand for artificial intelligence and data analytics talent, particularly within Wisconsin’s manufacturing sector.

The signing took place at Mid-State’s Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering Technology, and Apprenticeship (AMETATM) Center and reflects a collaborative approach to aligning technical education with workforce needs. The shared program aligns Mid-State’s AI Data Specialist degree with WCTC’s IT – Data and Analytics Specialist program, creating a consistent curriculum pathway with a strong emphasis on applied skills relevant to advanced manufacturing and related industries.

“This program gives students a clear, applied pathway into advanced manufacturing roles that are shaping the future of work,” said Dr. Shelly Mondeik, president of Mid-State Technical College. “It also reflects our commitment to expanding AI education in ways that open doors across industries.”

While the initial focus of the shared program leans toward manufacturing applications, Mid-State is already preparing to expand its AI portfolio through AI Applied, a flexible framework designed to support future offerings in business, healthcare, public safety, information technology and other sectors.

“This partnership reflects both immediate workforce demand and long-term vision,” said Dr. Richard Barnhouse, president of Waukesha County Technical College. “By collaborating on curriculum and delivery, we’re ensuring students gain practical, industry-relevant skills today while creating a foundation that can adapt to emerging technologies and industries tomorrow.”

The AI Data Specialist program emphasizes real-world application of artificial intelligence, data analytics, and emerging technologies through hands-on learning and employer-informed curriculum. The signing event also included remarks from industry leaders underscoring the importance of applied AI talent in modern manufacturing environments.

Mid-State’s broader AI strategy, including the launch of AI Applied, highlights the college’s commitment to scalable, industry-responsive education. More information about Mid-State’s AI vision and future offerings can be found at https://in.mstc.edu/applied-ai
