Mid-State to host SkillsUSA Welding Challenge

September 28, 2023

Mid-State Technical College will host its third SkillsUSA Welding Challenge on Friday, Oct. 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Wisconsin Rapids Campus. High school SkillsUSA members and advisors are invited to attend.

The Welding Challenge consists of two competitions: welding and job interview. The welding competition includes a hands-on weld test and a written test. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top scorers in each category with the gold medal recipients earning a guaranteed spot at the SkillsUSA State Leadership & Skills Conference welding competition in April in Madison.

“We are proud to be one of the three host sites in Wisconsin for the SkillsUSA Welding Challenge,” said Ryan Kawski, dean of the School of Applied Technology. “The Welding Challenge provides a unique opportunity for high schoolers to test their skills. Local employers and welding experts will be on campus to serve as judges for the competition to help prepare the future welders of Wisconsin.”

The deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 6. The registration fee is $20, and lunch will be provided. Learn more and register at mstc.edu/welding-challenge.
