Free event continues College’s commitment to bringing meaningful conversations to the community

Mid-State Technical College will host Tom Farley, community outreach director at Recovery.com and brother of late actor and comedian Chris Farley, for a community conversation on addiction, mental health and stigma. The event takes place Tuesday, May 5, 2026, with two options available—one at Mid-State’s Wisconsin Rapids Campus at noon, the other at the Wisconsin Rapids Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m.

A nationally recognized advocate for mental health and addiction recovery and, Farley draws on personal experience and years of public speaking to deliver honest, impactful presentations focused on compassion, connection and the importance of open dialogue. His message emphasizes reducing stigma and supporting individuals and families affected by substance use and mental health challenges.

“These conversations are about creating understanding and breaking down barriers,” said Mid-State Director of Workforce & Professional Development Craig Bernstein. “By bringing speakers like Tom Farley to our community, we’re helping people feel seen, supported and better equipped to navigate challenges related to mental health and addiction.”

This event is part of Mid-State’s ongoing effort to bring impactful, real-world conversations to central Wisconsin—creating space for dialogue around resilience, wellbeing and the challenges individuals and families face every day.

The presentation is open to all community members and free to attend, made possible through funding from the Wood County Opioid Grant through the Human Services Department. Advance registration is required.
