Phlebotomy TechnicianTechnical Diploma
Phlebotomists are in great demand across the country!
Realizing the great need for well-prepared phlebotomists, Mid-State Technical College, in conjunction with area healthcare agencies, provides a less-than-one-year diploma program to meet the needs of laboratories seeking skilled personnel. This program features a 24-credit preparatory semester at Mid-State followed by a three-credit theory course and a five-credit practicum at area healthcare agencies. The Phlebotomy Technician program teaches you about blood collecting techniques necessary for lab analysis, including venipuncture, skin punctures, and arterial punctures. You will also learn information and skills needed to perform various lab procedures, including specimen processing.
This program also serves as a career pathway for advanced medical laboratory careers. The Phlebotomy Technician program is approved by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, one of just three approved programs in Wisconsin. Graduates are also prepared to take a national certification exam, though taking and passing a national exam is not a graduation requirement.
