‘Start Strong’ is designed to help people navigate recent federal financial aid changes
Recent federal changes to student financial aid have left many current and prospective college students wondering what they mean for their education. To help answer those questions and connect students with personalized support, Mid-State Technical College is hosting a free “Start Strong Financial Wellness Event” on Wednesday, July 8, from 4–6 p.m. at its Wisconsin Rapids Campus.
The event is open to anyone considering college this fall—including prospective students, returning students, current students, parents and families and community members with questions about paying for college.
“Our message is simple—don’t let uncertainty stop you from exploring your options,” said Jackie Esselman, dean of strategic marketing and recruitment at Mid-State Technical College. “There have been recent changes to federal financial aid programs, and many people are unsure how those changes may affect them. Instead of trying to navigate it alone, we’re inviting people to sit down with our team, ask questions, and learn about the many resources available to help make college affordable.”
During the event, attendees can meet one-on-one with Mid-State staff to receive personalized guidance on:
- Financial aid and FAFSA questions
- Scholarships and payment plan options
- Budgeting and financial wellness resources
- Credit for prior learning opportunities
- Career and program exploration through PathwayU
- Applying to Mid-State, registering for classes, and planning next steps
In addition to Mid-State experts, attendees will have access to campus resources designed to help remove barriers to enrollment and support long-term student success.
“As costs continue to be top of mind for many families, we want our communities to know they don’t have to figure it all out on their own,” Esselman said. “Whether someone is attending college for the first time, returning after time away or simply wants to better understand their financial options, we’re here to help.”
Mid-State encourages anyone with questions about paying for college to attend—even if they are uncertain about enrolling or believe they may not qualify for financial aid. Staff will work with attendees to identify available resources and develop a personalized plan for moving forward.
