Pharmacy Technician
Technical DiplomaIn the recent past, a pharmacy technician’s role was typically limited to cashier or clerk, but today’s pharmacies are calling on them to do much more. As the health care landscape shifts and transforms, many pharmacists are providing direct patient care, and the pharmacy technicians under their supervision are performing a deeper role with greater responsibility.
This program is offered through an agreement with Lakeshore Technical College. Please contact their Financial Aid Office for financial aid information.
A Closer Look
Pharmacists rely on technicians to provide an extra layer of safety in the dispensing of medication. This includes entering and filling prescriptions, reconstituting medications, keeping accurate records, and communicating with physician offices and insurance companies. More than mere helpers, they are often co-partners or team players in providing patient care.
In some cases, pharmacy technicians may participate in research, assist in clinical settings, and help to provide medication therapy management.
What You'll Learn
Mid-State’s Pharmacy Technician program provides hands-on learning that prepares students to assist licensed pharmacists in safely dispensing prescription medication. Graduates may work in hospital and retail pharmacies, nursing homes, and everywhere medications are prepared.
In this program, you’ll receive both lab and clinical experience in using pharmacy software to build patient profiles, as well as interpret and enter prescriptions. Core program courses are offered via video conference hosted by Lakeshore Technical College (LTC) and are supported by select classes available with Mid-State.
