Are you a creative people person with good communication skills, attention to detail, and time management skills?
Make your dream a reality with a future in cosmetology and barbering. Your knack for being creative will flourish when you receive personal attention as you become proficient at basic, fashionable, and cutting-edge techniques. Cosmetology students receive hands-on learning not only from experienced faculty, but also guest lectures, demonstrations, industry representatives, and platform artists.
Students develop skills through practice on mannequins and eventually provide services in the on-campus salon. Many hands-on opportunities are available, including job shadowing, hairstyling and cosmetics for Miss Wisconsin Rapids Pageant contestants, and the donation of time and services for local community benefits and charitable activities.
Graduates can find employment in a variety of industries, including salons, cruise ships, spas, retail/wholesale supply, and assisted living facilities.
Students must purchase a kit comprised of prescribed and required tools and supplies (approximately $1,700) on the first day of class. The program is regulated by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
Financial Aid and scholarships are available to those who qualify. The State of Wisconsin requires licensed cosmetologists to complete 1550 hours of training. Title IV federal financial aid for programs with hourly requirements, such as Cosmetology, is awarded on the basis of hourly progression. MSTC’s financial aid department is available to guide you through the process.
