Mid-State celebrates early support and invites community to help build the future of public safety in central Wisconsin
Community leaders, public safety professionals, business and industry partners and supporters joined Mid-State Technical College Wednesday, Sept. 30, to officially launch the campaign for the Nexus Public Safety Center, a planned regional education and training complex designed to strengthen public safety training across central Wisconsin.
The campaign launch marked an important milestone for the project and celebrated the partnerships and early donor support helping move the vision for Nexus forward. More than $2.5 million has already been raised toward the project.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us to celebrate this milestone and to the donors and partners who have already invested in this vision,” said Dr. Shelly Mondeik, president of Mid-State Technical College. “Nexus is possible because people across our region recognize the importance of preparing those who protect and serve our communities. The support we have received is an exciting start, and we invite others to join us in bringing this project to life.”
Nexus is a partnership between Mid-State, the City of Stevens Point and public safety agencies throughout central Wisconsin. The approximately $45 million project will bring education, emergency services and realistic training environments together in one location, including Mid-State training facilities, a City of Stevens Point fire station and satellite police station and extensive outdoor training areas.
Supported by all 62 public safety agencies in the Mid-State district, Nexus will bring future and current fire, EMS, law enforcement, corrections and emergency management professionals together for realistic, technology-infused training. The project will provide modern indoor and outdoor training environments designed to strengthen collaboration, expand access to specialized training and better prepare responders for real-world emergencies.
Help Build Nexus
The campaign launch is only the beginning. Mid-State is inviting businesses, foundations, public safety agencies, community organizations and individuals to help bring Nexus to life and strengthen public safety education and training throughout the region.
Support is welcomed through monetary gifts as well as equipment and material donations. More than 75 naming opportunities are also available throughout the facility and outdoor training environments, providing businesses, organizations and individuals with opportunities to make a lasting investment in the future of public safety.
Every partnership helps expand access to high-quality training, prepare the next generation of first responders and give those already serving our communities access to the technology, facilities and training they need to stay ready.
