Mid-State Technical College is offering a new 63-credit AI Data Specialist associate of applied science degree this spring.
The two-year program is shared with Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC), recognized for its AI expertise. Students will be able to complete the full program locally through a mix of online classes at WCTC and both in-person and online classes at Mid-State.
AI data specialists transform complex information into solutions that help companies work smarter and use data responsibly and effectively to drive innovation. They gather and prepare data from many sources, build predictive models and design AI tools that can recognize images, interpret language and detect patterns too complex for humans to spot.
According to Trina Kloehn, dean of Mid-State's Schools of Business & IT and Hospitality, the new AI Data Specialist AAS prepares students for a career in AI with high pay and growth. “We are so excited to bring this new, cutting-edge AI and data program to our communities,” she said. “AI is quickly transforming every industry, and this is an ideal way for people to ride that wave to a rewarding career with high pay. Partnering with WCTC to offer this quality program gives students the perfect blend of small-college support from Mid-State and WCTC’s AI expertise.”
Students in the program will experience hands-on, career-focused learning using industry tools and technologies. They’ll work with Python, SQL databases, cloud platforms and big-data environments while exploring real AI applications. Coursework is paired with practical experiences such as building dashboards, and the program culminates in an AI/data capstone and internship, giving students the chance to design and implement AI solutions in real business or industrial settings. Graduates will go forward with confidence, skill, and a strong professional portfolio.
