At Mid-State Technical College, preparing students for careers in emergency services means responding to real community needs. As the demand for paramedics continues to grow, Mid-State is expanding opportunities for students to enter this high-demand field.
Thanks to support from a Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) grant, Mid-State now offers a spring cohort for its paramedic programs. This expansion allows two full-time cohorts to run at the same time, increasing access for students and helping address workforce shortages across the region.
The growth supports both the Paramedic Technician associate of applied science degree and the Paramedic technical diploma programs, creating more pathways into emergency medical services careers.
Partnerships with local emergency service agencies also play an important role in student success. Organizations such as the Stevens Point Fire Department support students through sponsorship opportunities, creating a direct connection between classroom learning and community impact.
“This is an opportunity for students to step into a career where they can make a meaningful difference every day,” said Rick Anderson, dean of Adams Campus and School of Public Safety. “We are expanding access so more students can answer the call and serve their communities when it matters most.”
Through hands-on training, strong employer partnerships, and expanded program opportunities, Mid-State prepares paramedic graduates to respond with confidence in high-pressure situations.
As communities continue to need skilled emergency responders, Mid-State remains committed to preparing the next generation of paramedics ready to make an impact from day one.
