New technical degrees at Mid-State Technical College include Catering Specialist, Livestock Technician and Auto Collision Repair & Refinish Technician.

New offerings address workforce demands in hospitality, agriculture, and transportation industries

Mid-State Technical College is expanding opportunities for students and employers across central Wisconsin with the launch of three new programs beginning in fall 2026: Catering Specialist, Livestock Technician and Auto Collision Repair & Refinish Technician. The programs were developed in response to growing workforce needs and provide students with hands-on training for in-demand careers.

Among the new offerings, Mid-State's Catering Specialist technical degree is believed to be the first program of its kind in Wisconsin, preparing students for careers in catering operations, event food service, culinary production and hospitality management. The program combines culinary expertise with business and event execution skills, giving graduates a competitive advantage in one of the state's growing hospitality sectors.

The Livestock Technician technical degree offers hands-on training for careers supporting modern livestock and dairy operations. Students will develop skills in herd health, feeding practices, animal care and farm management while gaining practical experience in agricultural settings.

Mid-State is also introducing the Auto Collision Repair & Refinish Technician technical degree, preparing students for careers in the collision repair industry. Students will learn structural repair, welding, panel replacement, refinishing techniques, paint matching and other specialized skills needed to restore vehicles to pre-accident condition. The program emphasizes extensive hands-on training that mirrors real-world shop environments.

"These programs reflect Mid-State's commitment to developing educational pathways that align directly with workforce needs across our region and state," said Dr. Chris Severson, vice president of Academics at Mid-State Technical College. "Whether students are interested in hospitality, agriculture or transportation careers, these new programs provide opportunities to gain specialized skills, learn from industry experts and enter the workforce with confidence. We're especially excited to offer Wisconsin's first Catering Specialist technical degree, creating a new pathway into a dynamic and growing industry."

The addition of these programs further expands Mid-State's portfolio of more than 100 career-focused programs designed with employer input and built around hands-on learning experiences.

Applications for fall 2026 enrollment are now being accepted. Students are encouraged to apply early and learn more about program requirements, financial aid opportunities and career outcomes.
