Computer Labs @ MSTC

The Department of Information Technology maintains over 30 computer labs and work areas including systems in the library and Academic Support Centers. We are on a 4-year computer life cycle. Based on industry standards, most systems are considered high-end machines.

Students may utilize the computer labs when classes are not in session. The library also offers high-end systems where students may conduct research to further their studies. All labs, ASC, and library computers are connected to the MSTC network providing access to the Internet and laser jet printers.

MSTC has chosen Windows XP as its main desktop operating system, and Windows 2003 server edition.

SOFTWARE: The standard software load for all labs as of Fall 2007 is Microsoft Office 2003 & 2007, Trend Micro Antivirus, and Internet Explorer 7.0. Additional software installs vary per lab, semester, and instructor.

HARDWARE: The link below outlines standard computer systems installed throughout Mid-State's 4 locations. At the beginning of each fiscal year (July 1st), all systems are reviewed. Based on our 4-year life cycle, new equipment is purchased to replace older systems. Click here for information regarding MSTC Computer Hardware specifications and locations!

LABS: Computer labs have 20 student workstations, HP Laser Jet printer, instructor workstation, white/chalk board, and projection unit. There is no food or beverages permitted in the computer lab. Use of the labs is restricted to MSTC students, faculty, staff, and contract classes. Newer labs have several workstations with CD-RW drives.

WIRELESS: MSTC introduced wireless technology during the 2002-2003 school year and will continue to expand in this area.

PUBLIC COMPUTERS: Public machines are available in the library.

USAGE POLICY: Using any of the MSTC computer facilities is a privilege. Students are obligated to follow the rules and procedures established by the college. Further, it is the student's responsibility to read, understand, and abide by all policies. Misuse of the facilities or violation of policies may lead to termination of offenders computer privileges and if necessary referral to authorities. See Network Policies for additional information.
