Get a solid foundation in the fundamental design, operation, maintenance and installation techniques to work with renewable technologies. Workshops and a visit to the MREA Energy Fair will keep you engaged and on the cutting-edge of technology.

Renewable Energy Workshops

Biorefinery

Biodiesel, Ethanol, Biobutanol, Biomass gasif cation. These are just a few of the biofuels we make today. What are biofuels and what’s so good about them? Learn about biofuels and how biodiesel is made from oil seeds. See a demonstration of a seed press and discover how to make your very own batch of biodisel! We’ll also compare and contrast the differences between petroleum fuels and biofuels.

Energy Efficiency

Learn why homes waste energy and how to identify opportunities for improving their energy performance. Hands-on activities include the operation of a blower door, duct blower and infrared camera. Discover how to measure the energy you use on a daily basis and identify areas where you can reduce it.

MREA Energy Fair

The Energy Fair features hundreds of workshops and exhibits all emphasizing clean energy and sustainable living.

All hand-on workshops, the Energy Fair, transportation, lunch & snacks are at no cost to high school students. Students will receive one MSTC college credit for participating all three days.

Register early! Space is limited. Registration deadline is Friday, June 11.

Registration is open to all students entering 9-12 grades and graduating seniors.
