Stevens Point Campus
On the move... to 1001 Centerpoint Drive
Having served the greater Stevens Point region for 99 years, we are thrilled to kick off our second century with an historic change for Mid-State Technical College and the downtown of Stevens Point.
- Reasons for Change:
- Space: The current campus, occupying 11% of total college space while serving 22% of the college’s enrollment, has undersized classrooms, aging health labs, and limited space for new services and programming
- Student Capacity: A 23% enrollment increase since 2008 means the existing campus on Michigan Avenue is at maximum capacity
- Landlocked: Unable to expand the campus on Michigan Avenue
- Parking: Inadequate number of parking spaces
- Project Scope
- Relocate from existing campus on Michigan Avenue to downtown Stevens Point to occupy the former J.C. Penney store and a portion of CenterPoint Marketplace west of Third Street
- 53,211 square feet (existing site is only 36,000 square feet)
- LEED Silver certifiable
- Timeline:
- Fall 2012 – completion of the east wall
- January 2013 – construction of the balance of the campus will commence
- January 2014 – targeted occupancy date
- College Impact
- Fulfill existing space needs and position the college for future growth
- Increased accessibility for students
- The college will own the property
- Community Impact
- Mid-State Technical College will be a cornerstone of a revitalized downtown Stevens Point
- Positive economic impact on downtown Stevens Point
- 2800 students attend Stevens Point Campus each year
