Some people think marketing is great TV and radio commercials. Some would say it’s the interaction just prior to a purchase. Although it is related to advertising and sales, marketing is actually much bigger—it is all of the strategy between when a product is born and the sale is made.

A Closer Look

Marketers anticipate the public's needs and “position” products to satisfy those needs. Increasingly, successful marketers make data-informed decisions and draw on analytical and creative skills to design a selling approach using advertising, public relations, and other types of promotion. They are strategic thinkers who collaborate with everyone from product managers to designers to supply chain personnel.

In the end, that flashy commercial or eye-catching billboard campaign is the byproduct of a complicated process that takes specialized expertise and months of teamwork.


What You'll Learn

Mid-State’s Marketing program builds the skills, experience, and connections critical to business success. Our graduates can confidently create inventive promotional campaigns, effectively brand, construct a dynamic social media presence, and analyze market research data.

You’ll learn from industry experts and use technology and other hands-on tools both inside and outside the classroom. You’ll also learn strategies to anticipate and satisfy market needs, make data-informed business decisions, and promote goods and services to achieve a desired outcome. Courses are transferable to baccalaureate degree programs through a variety of transfer agreements.

JON STEELE

Jon earned his MBA from University of South Florida and pursued additional education in social media marketing, web marketing, and digital design. He has held sales and marketing management positions and has international business and teaching experience. His ongoing business consulting and not-for-profit board service keep him current and connected.

DEBRA WALLNER

Debra’s teaching in the marketing field has allowed her to work with a wide variety of businesses, people, and marketing situations. She holds an MBA from UW-Oshkosh.

“I believe that learning should be as close to real life as we can make it. Creating real-life opportunities for our students by partnering with local businesses produces graduates who come to employers with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform that job.”
