I think many nursing students would classify their anxiety as severe. But what really is the difference? One difference is that mild anxiety does not interfere significantly with our every day life, but severe anxiety does. Also, mild anxiety only has physical and mental signs and symptoms, but severe anxiety has physical, mental, and behavioral signs and symptoms.
Think of speech class when your hands got all sweaty, your heart started to race, and you had a hard time concentrating because you were so worried about doing well or looking good in front of everyone. That is mild anxiety. An example of severe anxiety would be the person with OCD who acts on their anxieties. They may have to clean the remote control 3 times after someone touches it.
