Nursing Admissions/Program Progression Process
Effective for all new admissions after January 1, 2008
The admission requirements are identical for the Practical Nursing (PN) and the Nursing (ADN) program to support articulation between programs.


Step 1: Complete the following admissions requirements:

bullet
Complete a WTCS application form and return it with the $30 non-redundable application fee or
apply
bullet Successfully complete the Accuplacer admissions test with the required scores or remediation:
Reading 55, Math 34, Sentence Structure 60.
bullet Submit high school and any college transcripts.
bullet Complete a Background Information Disclosure Form and submit $10 for Caregiver Background check. Wisconsin Caregiver law requires all students have a Caregiver Background Check. If you have a criminal history you may not be able to complete clinical. Please see a counselor for more details.
bullet Attend a Nursing Information Session.
When completed, the student will be conditionally admitted to the ADN Program and be eligible to apply for financial aid.
   

Step 2: Complete the following requirements to be eligible to enroll in nursing core courses:

bullet Completion of Introduction to College Math with a grade of C- or better or an Accuplacer Math score of 79 or higher.
bullet Completion of Introduction to College Reading and Study Skills with a C- or better or an Accuplacer Reading score of 89 or higher.
bullet Nursing Assistant or Basic Nursing Skills course with a C- or better.
bullet One year of high school chemistry with at least a C- grade, or equivalent; or one semester of college chemistry with a C- or better.
bullet General Anatomy & Physiology with a B- or better. This course has a science prerequisite.
bullet Developmental Psychology, Written Communication, Advanced Anatomy & Physiology and Microbiology with a C- or better.
Please note: Advanced Anatomy & Physiology and Microbiology are not required for Practical Nursing Students.
bullet Students are highly encouraged to have all General Studies courses completed prior to entering nursing core courses.
bullet Must have a total program GPA of 2.00 or higher.
bullet Updated Background Information Disclosure Form.
  • Completed packets submitted by March 15th will be considered for Fall Nursing Core Course enrollment.
  • Completed packets submitted by June 15th will be considered for Spring Nursing Core Course enrollment.
              Practical Nursing students are considered for Fall semester enrollment only.
When Step 2 requirements are completed, the student will be eligible to request entrance to the nursing core courses. Complete the Intent to Enroll Form and submit proof of completion of all requirements at one time to the Student Affairs Office. Incomplete packets will be returned to the student.

Students who complete the above course requirements will be able to continue enrollment into the core nursing course. ADN students who fail to meet the Step 2 requirements within 35 undergraduate credit hours will have their conditional admission to the Nursing program withdrawn and will no longer be eligible for Financial Aid. Practical Nursing students who fail to meet the Step 2 requirements within 20 undergraduate credit hours will have their conditional admission to the Practical Nursing program withdrawn and will no longer be eligible for Financial Aid.
