Golfers in the community tested their skills on a new course during the Mid-State Sand Valley Golf Outing on September 18. Forty golfers on eight teams competed for a good cause on the 17-hole par-3 Sandbox course, raising over $9,000 in proceeds to help fund Foundation scholarships, grants and emergency funding for students through the school year.

Tying for first place in the competition were the Delta Dental and WAOW TV 9 teams. Both shot 43 on the par-51 course, requiring two steps of Sand Valley’s tie-breaking rules to determine team WAOW TV 9 the winner. Other winners at the event included the nine sponsoring businesses and 11 volunteers who generously gave of their resources and time to support students.

Jill Steckbauer, director of Mid-State’s Foundation & Alumni, attributed the success of the event in part to the sought-after location at Sand Valley. “Players and volunteers alike were pleased with the relaxed, fun, entertaining day for a good cause, and the views of the courses were spectacular,” she said.
