MSTC Foundation awards $31,250 to high school seniors

The Mid-State Technical College Foundation has awarded $31,250 to 25 graduating high school seniors. Each scholarship has a value of $1,250 and provides financial assistance to students enrolled in associate degree or technical diploma programs during the 2014-15 academic year.

Foundation scholarship recipients were selected by the MSTC Scholarship Selection Committee. Students’ academic achievements, pre-entrance test result, extracurricular activities, and responses to essay questions were reviewed and assessed by the committee.

Established in 1979, the MSTC Foundation partners with donors to support and strengthen the college’s role in serving the educational needs of central Wisconsin residents.

The following list details scholarship recipients and their high schools, communities of residence, parents, and MSTC program for which they are enrolled.

Almond-Bancroft High School-Jewel Matke, Almond, is the daughter of Lesa Duda and is enrolled in the Cosmetology program.

Assumption High School- Gregory Esser, Wittenberg, is the son of Steven and Patricia Esser and is enrolled in the IT-Network Specialist program. Alexander Zdroik, Rosholt, is the son of Tom and Trish Zdroik and is enrolled in the Respiratory Therapist program.

Auburndale High School- Alison Bendickson, Vesper, is the daughter of Arnie and Wendy Bendickson and is enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program. Luke Haas, Arpin, is the son of Steven and Linda Haas, and is enrolled in the Urban Forestry Technician program.

DC Everest High School-Kodie Kocher, Weston, is the son of Jim and Suzie Kocher and is enrolled in the Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technician program.

John Edwards High School-Justin Peckham, Wisconsin Rapids, is the son of Tom and Lora Peckham, and is enrolled in the IT-Software Developer program.

Home school-Brysen Delaney, Babcock, is the son of Darren and Crystal Delaney, and is enrolled in the Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement program. Timothy Wogerman, Wisconsin Rapids, is the son of John and Dana Wogerman, and is enrolled in the Automotive Technician program.

Lincoln High School-Brandon Behrend, Wisconsin Rapids, is the son of Bruce and Sheryl Behrend, and is enrolled in the Marketing program. Valerie Cronce, Wisconsin Rapids, is the daughter of Russell and Karen Cronce and is enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program. Brian Flatoff, Junction City, is the son of Len Flatoff and Monica Karl, and is enrolled in the Welding program. Katelyn Houser, Wisconsin Rapids, is enrolled in the EMT-Paramedic program. Paul Kirk, Rudolph, is the son of Kristopher and Tammy Kirk, and is enrolled in the Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technician program.

Loyal High School-Jordan Esselman, Chili, is the son of Ed and Linda Esselman, and is enrolled in the Automotive Technician program. Layne Schmidt, Loyal, is the son of Brian and Karie Schmidt, and is enrolled in the Renewable Energy Specialist program.

Marshfield High School- Tyler Guden, Marshfield, is the son of David and Suzanne Guden, and is enrolled in the IT-Network Specialist program. Jordan Schaefer, Marshfield, is the son of Dean Schaefer and Beth Schaefer, and is enrolled in the Machine Tool Technician program. Tanner Tyrolt, Marshfield, is the son of Todd and Deb Tyrolt, and is enrolled in the Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement program.

Pittsville High School-Christopher Hale, Pittsville, is the son of Vickie Dux, and is enrolled in the Automotive Technician program.  Eric Huber, Vesper, is the son of Mathew and Jane Huber, and is enrolled in the Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technician program. Cole Robus, Marshfield, is the son of Tim and Michelle Robus, and is enrolled in the Industrial Mechanical Technician program.

Stevens Point Area High School-Margaret Hirzy, Stevens Point, is the daughter of Eric and Heidi Hirzy, and is enrolled in the Machine Tool Technician program. Amanda Wroblewski, Plover, is the daughter of Steve and Cindy Wroblewski, and is enrolled in the Business Management program.

Spencer High School-Jenifer Neuendank, Spencer, is the daughter of Karlene Neuendank, and is enrolled in the Cosmetology program.

Other scholarships awarded to graduating high school seniors…

Karen S. Bingham Memorial Scholarship: Established in 2011 by friends and family of former MSTC Information Technology Senior Programmer/Analyst Karen Bingham, this award honors her passion for students and the field of education by providing assistance to high school seniors planning to attend MSTC following graduation. This year’s recipient is Alexander Zdroik, Rosholt.  He is the son of Tom and Trish Zdroik and enrolled in the Respiratory Therapist program.

Jeanne Bushman Memorial Scholarship: Established in 2012 by family and friends of former MSTC Human Resources Assistant Jeanne Bushman, this award provides assistance to Assumption High School graduates who are enrolled in any associate degree or technical diploma program at MSTC. This first award was presented by family to Gregory Esser, Wittenberg. He is the son of Steven and Patricia Esser and enrolled in the IT-Network Specialist program.

Donald Eberhardt Memorial Scholarship: This fund was established by family and friends to provide scholarships for new and continuing students enrolled in the Diesel & Heavy Equipment program. Eberhardt was a resident of Wisconsin Rapids, employed at Mid-State Truck Service, and enjoyed raising bees, making maple syrup and sausage, and woodworking.  This year’s high school recipient is Pittsville High School senior Eric Huber, Vesper. He is the son of Mathew and Jane Huber.

Francis & Evelyn Haines Scholarship: Alumnus of Granton (Francis) and Neillsville (Evelyn Dux) High Schools established an endowment to the Mid-State Technical College Foundation in 1994 to assist high school seniors. This year, Hallie Eisfeldt, daughter of Todd and Katrina Eisfeldt, was selected as the recipient of a $1,000 award and Shyla Salisbury, daughter of Scott and Melissa Bahr, was selected as the recipient of a $500 award.

Allen Spencer Memorial Scholarship: Established in 2013 by family in honor of Spencer’s years of dedicated service as Wisconsin Rapids Police Chief, this award provides assistance to graduating high school seniors enrolled in the Criminal Justice program at MSTC. This first award was presented by family to Marshfield High School graduate, Tanner Tyrolt, Marshfield. He is the son of Todd and Deb Tyrolt and enrolled in the Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement program.
