Mid-State Foundation Awards Bethke Transportation Scholarship
June 21, 2016
To honor of the generosity of the late Leonard and Lillian Bethke, the Mid-State Foundation offers a full tuition scholarship each year to graduating high school seniors planning to pursue a technical diploma in the Automotive Technician or Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technician program.
Marshfield High School senior Tyler Pachal was selected to receive the 2016 award. He is pursuing a technical diploma in the Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technician program at Mid-State Technical College.
Pachal, Marshfield, is the son of Virgil and Lora Pachal. During high school, he was involved in FFA and 4-H by holding various officer positions and attended leadership conferences. He also participated in community activities such as the petting zoo, Dairy Fest Parade, and Central Wisconsin State Fair, all of which influenced his life to “be a better and more responsible person.”
Pachal has work experience through Zygarlicke Farms, Wojcik Farms and Custom Harvesting, Marian Acres, and Staab Construction Corporation. Through this work experience he honed problem-solving skills from maintenance and repair on construction equipment from tractor backhoes, excavators, and bulldozers. He is motivated by the continued use of GPS and satellite, electronic diagnoses of engines, and cutting-edge technology in the industry. A long-range goal is to own his own diesel repair shop.
The Leonard & Lillian Bethke Transportation Scholarship has a value of up to $10,000, which covers tuition and fees. Pachal was selected by the Mid-State Scholarship Selection Committee. Students’ academic achievements, pre-entrance test results, financial need, extracurricular activities and responses to essay questions were reviewed and assessed by the committee. To remain eligible for the continuation of scholarship funds, recipients must maintain required academic standings.
