Mid-State Foundation Awards $30,000 to High School Seniors

Mid-State Technical College Foundation has awarded $30,000 to 24 graduating high school seniors. Each had a value of $1,250 and provides financial assistance to students enrolled in associate degree or technical diploma programs during 2016-17.

The following lists the scholarship recipients’ high schools, names, communities of residence, parents’ names and the Mid-State program for which they are enrolled.

Adams-Friendship High School: Dominick Hady, Grand Marsh, is the son of Shannon and Amber Hady. He is enrolled in the Automotive Technician program.

Colby High School: Trevor Robida, Colby, is the son of Kurt and Kim Robida. He is enrolled in the Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technician program.

Crivitz High School: Nicholas Chapman, Crivitz, is the son of Mike and Kelly Zahn. He is enrolled in the Farm Operations program.

John Edwards High School: Brieana         Migut, Wisconsin Rapids, is the daughter of Jeremy Migut and Mindy Migut. She is enrolled in the Nursing program.

Lincoln High School: Brittany Cournoyer, Wisconsin Rapids, is the daughter of Mike and Megan Cournoyer. She is enrolled in the Cosmetology program. Alec Dickerson, Wisconsin Rapids, is the son of Jeremy Dickerson. He is enrolled in the Welding program. Joseph Hackman, Wisconsin Rapids, is the son of Jim and Tracy Hackman. He is enrolled in the Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement program. Jake Timm, Wisconsin Rapids, is the son of Kevin and Amy Timm-Peterson. He is enrolled in the Fire Protection Technician program.

Loyal High School: Michael Vine, Granton, is the son of Aaron and Angela Vine. He is enrolled in the Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technician program.

Marshfield High School:  Sara Hopperdietzel, Marshfield, is the daughter of Brian and Michelle Hopperdietzel. She is enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program. Anastasya Jensen, Hewitt, is the daughter of Linda Jensen. She is enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program. Roxana Schnitzler, Marshfield, is the daughter of Lisa Schnitzler. She is enrolled in the IT-Network Specialist program.
Necedah High School: Therese Arbanas, Necedah, is the daughter of Paul and Tracy Arbanas. She is enrolled in the Cosmetology program.

Neillsville High School: Shyann Millard, Neillsville, is the daughter of Rick and Diane Millard. She is enrolled in the Business Management program. Jasmine Post, Neillsville, is the daughter of Joe and Melissa Post. She is enrolled in the Nursing program.

Nekoosa High School: Carissa McGibbon, Nekoosa, is the daughter of Beverly McGibbon. She is enrolled in the Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement program. Brendon Meyer, Nekoosa, is the son of Brian Meyer and Michelle Szuminski. He is enrolled in the Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement program. Megan Rasmussen, Nekoosa, is the daughter of Jerry and Laura Rasmussen. She is enrolled in the Cosmetology program.

Pacelli High School: Adam Witt, Stevens Point, is the son of Greg Witt and Heather Witt. He is enrolled in the Nursing program.

Stevens Point Area High School: Nathan Britz, Stevens Point, is the son of Brad and Bette Britz. He is enrolled in the Industrial Mechanical Technician program. Silver Pientka, Stevens Point, the daughter of Jason Pientka and Amber Smith. She is enrolled in the Business Management program.

Spencer High School: Jessica Heisler, Marshfield, is the daughter of Lyle and Ann Heisler. She is enrolled in the Accounting program.

Tri-County High School: Jacob Galleske, Hancock, the son of John Roedeshimer and Brent and Tammy Galleske. He is enrolled in the Welding program. Natalie Henriksen, is the daughter of Neil and Melissa Henriksen. She is enrolled in the Respiratory Therapist program.

The Foundation scholarship recipients were selected by the Mid-State Scholarship Selection Committee. Students’ academic achievements, pre-entrance test result, extracurricular activities and responses to essay questions were reviewed and assessed by the committee. Established in 1979, the Mid-State Foundation partners with donors to support and strengthen the college’s role in serving the educational needs of central Wisconsin residents.

Other scholarships awarded to graduating high school seniors:
Karen S. Bingham Memorial Scholarship: Established in 2011 by friends and family of former Mid-State Information Technology Senior Programmer/Analyst Karen Bingham, this award honors her passion for students and the field of education by providing assistance to high school seniors planning to attend Mid-State following graduation. This year’s recipient is Adam Witt.  He is the son of Greg Witt and Heather Witt and enrolled in the Nursing program.

Jeanne Bushman Memorial Scholarship: Established in 2012 by family and friends of former Mid-State Human Resources Assistant Jeanne Bushman, this award provides assistance to Assumption High School graduates who are enrolled in any associate degree or technical diploma program at Mid-State. This award was presented to Jarrett Mancl, Rudolph. He is the son of Dean and Carrie Mancl and enrolled in the Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Technician program.

Scott Dean Memorial Scholarship: Established in 2015 by family and friends of Scott Dean to honor his passion for the field of education and student success to individuals interested in a welding career. The inaugural year’s recipients are Alec Dickerson, son of Jeremy Dickerson, and Jacob Galleske, son of John Roedeshimer and Brent and Tammy Galleske. Dickerson and Galleske are both enrolled in the Welding program.

Dennis and Roberta DeVetter Scholarship: Funds were established this year by Dennis and Roberta DeVetter recognizing their passion for the field of education and student success. This scholarship is awarded to a student who will attend Mid-State’s Marshfield Campus. This year’s recipient is Jasmine Post, daughter of Joe and Melissa Post. Post is enrolled in the Nursing program.

Denny Ewall Memorial Scholarship: Funds were established in 2015 by friends of Denny Ewall to honor his passion for the field of education and student success to individuals interested in a welding career. This year’s recipient is Jacob Galleske, son of John Roedeshimer and Brent and Tammy Galleske. Galleske is enrolled in the Welding program.

Francis & Evelyn Haines Scholarship: Alumnus of Granton (Francis) and Neillsville (Evelyn Dux) High Schools established an endowment to the Mid-State Technical College Foundation in 1994 to assist high school seniors. This year, Shyann Millard, daughter of Rick and Diane Millard, and Jasmine Post, daughter of Joe and Melissa Post, were selected as the recipients. Millard is enrolled in the Business Management program and Post is enrolled in the Nursing program.

Allen Spencer Memorial Scholarship: Established in 2013 by family in honor of Spencer’s years of dedicated service as Wisconsin Rapids Police Chief, this award provides assistance to graduating high school seniors enrolled in the Criminal Justice programs at Mid-State. This award was presented by family to Nekoosa High School graduate, Brendon Meyer, Nekoosa. He is the son of Brian Meyer and Michelle Szuminski and enrolled in the Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement program.
