Mid-State class turns junk into metal garden sculptures

May 4, 2017

Topic is last in this year's Spring Garden Series for the community

Mid-State Technical College is offering a continuing education, two-session experience titled “Metal Garden Sculpture” in its new Spring Garden Series. Not just for gardening enthusiasts, this instructor-led class teaches participants the basics of welding and machine safety so participants can create their own yard-art or garden sculptures. Participants will attend two sessions on Thursday, May 25, and Thursday, June 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. on the Mid-State Wisconsin Rapids campus. The fee for the class is $50.

During the first week students will collaborate on an instructor-led project. Instructors will provide inspiring examples of decorative metal sculpture pieces created from everyday steel “junk.”  In the second week they bring in scrap metal to create a metal sculpture for their own garden. Examples of good materials to bring to the second session include wrenches, ratchets, shovels and saw blades.

More details and registration information for the Metal Garden Sculpture course can be found at www.mstc.edu/gardenseries.
