Mid-State graduate to open new high-end beauty salon in Stevens Point
January 31, 2017
A new locally owned beauty salon, Point of Beauty, LLC, is coming to Park Ridge Drive in Stevens Point. The full-service salon will feature a spa setting and all-natural hair and nail products. A grand opening for the public is planned for Thursday, February 2, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Point of Beauty has long been a dream for owner Lien Lor, graduate of Mid-State Technical College’s Cosmetology program. Since obtaining her cosmetology license, Lor has refined her skills working in a local salon while formulating plans for a full-scale salon of her own.
“I wanted to provide customers with a one-stop salon for the latest trends and techniques in hair and makeup as well as complete nail and spa services,” said Lor, who has hired a staff of three additional licensed cosmetologists to join her, all Mid-State graduates, as well as two nail technicians. “We’ll also offer a high-end experience and complimentary coffee” she added.
Lor attributes the launch of Point of Beauty to Mid-State instructors, like Pat Lemke, who provided more than the in-depth training in client consultations, business practices and marketing strategies taught in the program. “I’m not a student anymore, but when I reached out for advice for opening my own salon, Pat helped me with everything from shopping for supplies and décor to building the industry connections I would need,” stated Lor. “I couldn’t have done it without her.”
Mid-State’s dean of General Education & Business programs Missy Skurzewski-Servant noted, “Lor’s success is a perfect example of how the industry experience and caring mentorship of Mid-State instructors come together to provide the support students need to achieve their dreams.”
