New Student Advising

New Student Advising

After completing the Accuplacer, new students will meet with an academic advisor to solidify their program choice and select their first semester courses.

When selecting courses, students should consider:

  • Current obligations for work, family, etc.
  • Time needed for studying
  • Accuplacer scores and program requirements
  • Financial aid requirements for half-time, three-quarter time, full-time statuses
  • Additional program requirements (e.g., background check)

Academic advising takes place during the STAR session for all newly admitted students. It is also an ongoing requirement for all students at Mid-State. If you have completed the Accuplacer and have not yet registered for classes, sign up for a STAR session to receive academic advising and register for your classes.
