Private Security Officer II Certificate

Get the  essential advanced skills needed for protection of persons and property in private industry. The certificate is the second level of the Private Security certificates offered at MSTC. The audience for this certificate is individuals who have completed the Private Security I certificate.

  • The certificate will provide documented evidence that a student has successfully completed advanced course work in the field of Criminal Justice. The documentation of completed course work will prove valuable to potential employers as they try to gauge the student’s academic preparation for employment in the occupation.

Criminal Investigation Theory - 3 credits

This course covers the fundamentals of criminal investigation including the gathering of investigative information from victims and witnesses, the search and recording of crime scenes and the principles involved in collecting and preserving physical evidence. There is a strong emphasis on investigative polices, procedures and practices that are necessary and essential to secure the truth within today’s legal climate. Prerequisite: Admission to Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement Program 105041

Telecommunications for Corrections - 3 credits

Prepares learners to embrace emergency communications as a profession; describe legal and ethical issues regarding telecommunicator responsibility and accountability; apply enhanced 9-1-1, computer-aided dispatch and map reading techniques; apply proper call receiving guidelines; demonstrate effective emergency radio communications techniques; interpret police computer information system data; perform telecommunications record-keeping functions; demonstrate effective crisis management skills in techniques to alleviate stress in emergency communications; and perform simulated dispatch functions. Prerequisite:  Admission to Criminal Justice-Corrections Program 105042

Community Policing Strategies - 3 credits

This course is designed to prepare students to Identify key concepts and elements associated with law enforcement response to people in crisis as well as locating available community resources. The course will help students identify appropriate responses and guidelines related to emergency detentions.  Students will also learn the philosophy behind community oriented policing as well as problem oriented policing. Prerequisite: Admission to Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement Program 105041 or Corrections Program 105042

Report Writing - 3 credits

In this course, students will learn how to write a variety of law enforcement and corrections reports to accurately and fairly convey necessary information, in a format appropriate for the criminal justice field.  Students will also participate in criminal justice situational analysis leading to scenario construction, role playing and video capture to formulate a broad base of available scenarios to be used in their report writing exercises. Prerequisites:  Admission to Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement Program 105041 or Corrections Program 105042 and Written Communication 10801195
