Develop or enhance the knowledge and skills required to analyze and present healthcare statistical data. Enrollment in this certificate requires documentation of work experience in the healthcare field or successful completion of the BIT Foundations certificate.

Database Management - 3 credits

This course uses hands-on exercises and projects to give students experience with using databases for data storage and retrieval. To encourage students to become more sophisticated database users, background information, general relational database design concepts and a database security overview are included. Health Data Analysis and Performance Improvement - 3 credits

It also studies healthcare performance improvement systems including risk management, utilization management and quality assessment. Introduction to the Health Record - 1 credit

Prepares learners to illustrate the flow of health information in various health care delivery systems and within the health information department. Prepares learners to retrieve data from health records. Professional ethics, confidentiality and security of information are emphasized.

Introduction to the Electronic Health Record - 1 credit

Introduces the use of the electronic health record (EHR) for those providing patient care as well as those processing health information. This course examines the content and structure of an EHR (inpatient and ambulatory patient records), documentation practice guidelines, and the types of user devices utilized in an EHR system. This course also covers basic concepts of clinical decision support, standards relating to content of health records, data integrity, and EHR system security. Students will have access to an electronic health record to apply concepts learned.
