This will include chemical selection, calibration
of equipment and application techniques.
Students will take the WI Pesticide Certification
Exam during this course.
Tree Biology - 2 credits
10001110
An overview of the tree system with an
emphasis on growth and development,
compartmentalization of wounds, and how
the tree adapts to the urban environment.
Prerequisites: Admission to Urban Forestry
Technician Program 100015; Introduction To
Plant Biology 10001147
Landscape Plant Identification - 2 credits
10001118

trees/shrubs and herbaceous plants commonly
used in residential and commercial landscapes
in Wisconsin. The three plan groups covered in
this course are woody trees/shrubs, herbaceous
perennial plants and herbaceous annual plants.
Identification, installation and maintenance will
be covered for each plant group.
Aerial Tree Pruning I - 1 credit
10001124
Introduction to the essential techniques and
equipment used by arborists for aerial tree
pruning. Students will learn the basic skills
required for rope and saddle tree work along
with basic aerial lift truck safety and operation.
This class will expose students to the common
methods of tree entry, ascension, maneuvering,
and pruning in accordance with the ANSI Z
133. 1-2000 and A300 standards.
Aerial Tree Pruning II - 2 credits
10001125
Students will expand upon their introduction
to aerial tree pruning and work to competency
in the basic skills required for rope and saddle
tree work along with basic aerial lift truck safety
and operation. This class will build student’s
functional knowledge and skills in the common
methods of tree entry, ascension, maneuvering,
and pruning in accordance with the ANSI Z
133. 1-2000 and A300 standards. Prerequisites:
Admission to Urban Forestry Technician
Program 100015; Aerial Tree Pruning I 10001124
Aerial Tree Removal Rigging - 1 credit
10001126
Builds on tree climbing skills from Tree
Climbing/Aerial Pruning II and introduces basic
principles of partial and entire tree removal.
Focuses on removal where whole tree felling
is not possible due to obstacles. Prerequisites:
Admission to Urban Forestry Technician
Program 100015; Aerial Tree Pruning II 10001125
Chain Saw Safety and Operation - 1 credit
