MSTC Board Holds Organizational Meeting & Elects Officers

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Four members of the Mid-State Technical College (MSTC) Board of Directors took the oath of office Monday evening during the Board's 2008-09 organizational meeting. Robert Beaver, Patrick Costello and Betty Bruski Mallek were each appointed to three-year terms. Anthony Marinack was appointed to a one-year unexpired term.

Beaver, Friendship, is the former superintendant for Adam-Friendship Schools and is presently a consultant with the Princeton School District. He has served on the MSTC Board of Directors since 1990. Costello, Wisconsin Rapids, is the Director of Human Resources at Abbyland Foods. He has served on the MSTC Board since 1993. Bruski Mallek, Junction City, is an Election and Licensing Specialist with the City of Stevens Point. She has served on the MSTC Board since 1990. Marinack, Almond, is the District Administrator for the Tri-County Area School District. This will be Marinack's first term on the MSTC Board of Directors.

In other news, the Board elected officers for fiscal year 2008-09. Joseph Kinsella, Stevens Point, was elected chairperson; Peggy Ose, Wisconsin Rapids, was elected vice chairperson; Betty Bruski Mallek was elected secretary; and Patrick Costello was elected treasurer.

Board members are appointed by county board supervisors, serve on a voluntary basis and are not paid. The nine-member MSTC Board of Directors is organized to represent employees, employers and the general public at large throughout the district; one member must be a public school administrator and one member an elected official. The Board is responsible for the administration of technical and adult educational programs and services in the district as authorized by the Wisconsin Technical College System Board according to state legislation.

In Board action, the Board unanimously approved a one-year extension of the current contract for College President Dr. John Clark. His contract is extended to June 30, 2011. Joe Kinsella, Board Chairperson, said the Board was pleased with Dr. Clark's leadership and accomplishments as College President.

The next Mid-State Technical College Board of Directors meeting will be held Monday, August 18 at the Wisconsin Rapids campus.
