MARSHFIELD – During the Mid-State Technical College (MSTC) Board of Directors meeting held Monday evening, the board heard a proposal for an addition and remodeling project at the Marshfield campus. According to Dr. Sue Budjac, Vice President of Academic Affairs, the campus was constructed in 1991 and no major remodeling or new construction has occurred since that time. She said a strategic review was applied in the long-range planning process for the campus. “Since 1991, capital budgets have primarily addressed facility infrastructure needs. Our recent review of campus needs as they relate to current and projected programs, how to best serve the needs of the Marshfield area, and enrollment trends, indicated that presently, there is an efficient use of space. However, in order to adequately prepare future students for success, a substantial update to the facility was recommended.” Dr. Budjac said the scope of the proposed project reflects a strong, student-centered approach as well as continuing to develop the Marshfield campus as a primary provider of instruction for allied health programs. “This campus is uniquely positioned in providing health care training to meet the emerging needs of area employers.”
According to Vice President of Student Affairs, Connie Willfahrt, the proposed Marshfield campus expansion and remodeling project would reflect a favorable “total student experience.” “As we look at what programs are needed to remain viable for students and employers, we also address the complementary student services needed to support new or changing programming. For example, the project includes the consolidation of student affairs and campus office staff to provide a ‘one-stop shop’ for all student services such as information, assistance with online services, admissions, registration, counseling, special needs services, financial services and the bookstore.”
The projected project cost for new construction is $954,800 and $765,600 for remodeling. Board members will consider this and other Fiscal Year 2007 Budget proposals during the May 2 Finance
Committee meeting.
The next Mid-State Technical College Board of Directors meeting will be held on Monday, May 15 at the Wisconsin Rapids campus. Committee meetings are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., with the regular Board meeting beginning at 5:00 p.m.
