MSTC Pursues Lease Agreement with City of Marshfield for Fire Training Center
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – During the Mid-State Technical College (MSTC) Board of Directors meeting held Monday evening, the board approved a lease agreement with the City of Marshfield for a shared Fire Training Center. The agreement is contingent upon approval from the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Board. Training capabilities at the center would include live fire situations, confined space training, search and rescue, breathing apparatus training within a smoke-filled building, and various training for handling hazardous materials. As proposed, the Fire Training Center would be renovated to provide basement and second floor attack training capabilities as well as moving a water hydrant closer to the building. According to Sue Budjac, Vice President of Academic Affairs, the shared use of the City of Marshfield Fire Training Center is necessary to support the educational needs of the varied fire services programs within the college’s District. “MSTC plays a critical role in supporting the region’s fire departments that depend on the college to train firefighters and other emergency response personnel. Once the training center renovations are complete, fire certification testing will be available within our district at this site.”

In other news, the Board reviewed the new Urban Forestry website as presented by Ron Zillmer, Associate Dean in the Technical & Industrial Division. The website’s development was funded with federal dollars secured for the college through Congressman Dave Obey. “The site will be very valuable to us as we promote MSTC and market the Urban Forestry program,” said Zillmer. The website’s address is http://www.mstc.edu/urbanforestry.

The next Mid-State Technical College Board of Directors meeting will be held on Monday, April 17 at the Marshfield campus. Committee meetings are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., with the regular Board meeting beginning at 5:00 p.m.
