The Mid-State Technical College (MSTC) Board of Directors approved Monday night recommendations to suspend three academic programs. The Medication Assistant (not to be confused with the very popular Medical Assistant program, Medical Transcription, and Health Unit Coordinator Technical Diplomas will be suspended fall 2012. New student enrollments will be suspended immediately. The college will continue to support students currently enrolled in the programs.
Data provided at the November Board meeting revealed each of the programs has been challenged by declining enrollments. Employer demand for program graduates is currently low and expected to remain low. Suspensions were recommended as part of MSTC’s ongoing academic program review process.
In other business Monday night, information was presented regarding the possible suspension of MSTC’s Laboratory Science Technician program. No action is expected until the January Board meeting.
“The college continues to evaluate its program and service mix, monitor enrollments and employer demand, and maximize college resources,” said MSTC Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Ann Marie Krause. “The college is also in the process of studying new academic programming options to supplement the already comprehensive mix at MSTC.”
