MSTC Students Get Real-World Experience

Students visiting JJ KellerMarshfield – Forty-two students and three instructors from Mid-State Technical College’s Marshfield Campus recently visited Hillshire Farms, New London; J.J. Keller & Associates, Inc., Neenah; and Lambeau Field, Green Bay. The students represented four program majors: Accounting, Business Management, Supervisory Management and Biomedical Informatics Technician.

According to Maggie Hilgart, Business Instructor, the purpose of the trip was to connect classroom learning to the workplace. “The business leaders shared their expectations of employees as well as the critical skills necessary to land entry-level positions within their companies.” The November 11 trip was organized by Diane Wolf, Business Instructor, and sponsored by MSTC’s Marshfield Campus Student Senate. Hilgart, Wolf and General Education Instructor Callie Tomczyk, accompanied the students.

Hilgart said the tour and presentations by staff at J.J. Keller left a significant impression on the students. “J. J. Keller is a world class publishing, printing and service organization. They generously shared information about internships and careers for graduates, how to apply for positions and interview tips.” She said the students came away from the entire day’s experience with invaluable and practical knowledge to complement their learning experiences at the college.
