Haines Scholarships Awarded to Area Graduates

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Francis and Evelyn Haines, Marshfield, have continued their unique way of saying "thank you" to their alma mater by offering two $500 scholarships to high school seniors who will attend Mid-State Technical College (MSTC) in fall. As alumnus of Granton (Francis) and Neillsville (Evelyn Dux) high schools, they made an endowment to the Mid-State Technical College Foundation in 1994 which provides two annual $500 scholarships to graduating seniors. This year, Ashley Oldham and David Steinbach were selected as recipients of these awards.

Oldham, Neillsville, is the daughter of Douglas and Susan Oldham. She was actively involved in high school band, flags and forensics. Through student council experience, she was involved in school blood drives, collected foods for the local food pantry and participated in the Finishline for cancer patients. Oldham is enrolled in MSTC's Administrative Assistant program.

Steinbach, Granton, is the son of Timothy and Cheryl Steinbach. While attending high school, he was involved in the National Honor Society, VICA, FBLA, Marawood Leadership Conference, and Building Leaders and Standing Tall (BLAST). He has participated as a school representative on the county board and has held many positions with the local FFA Chapter. He was involved in a variety of high school sports including basketball, baseball, cross country and football. He has volunteered for many community events, benefits, and church activities. He is enrolled in the Urban Forestry Technician program.

Oldham and Steinbach were selected by the MSTC Scholarship Selection Committee. Students' academic achievements, pre-entrance test results, character evaluations, and extracurricular activities were reviewed and assessed by the committee.
