MSTC to Offer Chiropractic Technician
Shared Program with Moraine Park Technical College
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Mid-State Technical College (MSTC) is pleased to announce its new online and weekend Chiropractic Technician program in partnership with Moraine Park Technical College (MPTC). Eldean Walling, Dean of the Service & Health Division, said the format of this healthcare career program gives students the convenience to complete their degree close to home, the ability to continue to work, and to earn an associate degree via Friday evening and Saturday courses. “The Friday and Saturday courses are offered at MPTC’s Beaver Dam campus. We’re very excited about this collaboration with Moraine Park in offering Chiropractic Technician, beginning this spring,” said Walling. MPTC is the only technical college in the state to offer the associate degree program.

Walling said graduates of the Chiropractic Technician program enter the field as professional assistants to doctors of chiropractic. “This program opens up a career with opportunity, responsibility and direct client services in one of the fastest-growing healthcare fields.” According to Jo Ann Grode, Service & Health Associate Dean, it is important for the two technical colleges to provide highly-trained and skilled employees who can assume a variety of responsibilities in working with patients and staff. “Professional chiropractors can save time and money by hiring graduates who will bring the knowledge and skills directly to the practice including performing front-line patient services, office management, insurance claim processing, patient education, patient therapies and taking and processing diagnostic x-ray,” said Grode.

Chiropractic Technician Program Details
The Chiropractic Technician program is offered on MPTC’s West Bend campus in a traditional, classroom setting but also offers it in a largely online format through its Beaver Dam campus – the latter option becoming the focus of this program for students in our region. MPTC has offered this program for the past ten years and will be the primary district, providing core courses online and also on weekends in Beaver Dam. MSTC will be the cooperating district, assisting students from central Wisconsin in securing general education, elective and some technical support courses to complete the associate degree.

Students will take approximately 36 credits online through MPTC and in classroom sessions on weekends in Beaver Dam. The remaining 33 credits will be provided by MSTC through the following courses:

  • Career Development
  • College Success Skills
  • Economics
  • General Anatomy and Physiology
  • Introduction to Psychology and Introduction to Sociology
  • Medical Terminology
  • One-credit computer literacy course containing an overview of Windows, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Oral/Interpersonal Communication or Speech and Written Communication
  • Six credits of electives at the associate degree level
