MSTC Director Graduates from Leadership Institute

McAllister WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Mid-State Technical College (MSTC) is pleased to announce that Doris McAllister, Director of Workforce & Economic Development, recently graduated from the Wisconsin Leadership Development Institute (WLDI). This year-long program is created in conjunction with the Chair Academy for Leadership and Development for the purpose of advancing academic and administrative leadership in technical and community colleges.

McAllister began the Institute’s program in July 2005, with a week of training which involved an individualized professional development plan. Additional components included a mentor program and a final week of on-site training regarding leadership issues. Topics covered included: The Complex Role of the Organizational Leader, Building Effective Work Teams, Strategic and Scenario Planning, Managing Conflict, Leading Change, Behavioral Work Styles and Appreciating Diversity.

McAllister said her experience was invaluable. “We face new challenges as leaders in post-secondary education we have previously not experienced in the workforce. For me, some of the most beneficial learning experiences stemming from WLDI centered on the broad topic of transformational leadership. This involved studying the complex role of a leader, developing and implementing teams and leading change.” “Another highly relevant aspect of the Institute was the networking and relationship building with all 32 participants, two facilitators and our WLDI Coordinator,” added McAllister.

An MSTC employee since 2002, McAllister is responsible for all activities of the Wisconsin Learning Center, provides leadership for MSTC’s contracted services in conjunction with divisional representatives and serves on the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Workforce Training & Economic Development Committee. Prior to her employment with the college, McAllister was a Business Consultant. McAllister earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. In addition, she has completed business and paper industry specialized training.
