Information Security Classes Available at MSTC
Classes Begin August 14
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Is your information safe? As consumers and businesses increase electronic transactions and Internet commerce, computer security and identity theft is a growing concern. Mid-State Technical College (MSTC) is offering three Information Security classes designed to protect consumer information, protect PCs and protect company information. Details about the three offerings follow:

Security Awareness…Protect Yourself: Principles of personal, organizational and Internet security will be discussed. Review methods of information security attacks and who conducts them. Learn to protect personal data, assess the risks of web browsing and the vulnerabilities of email. The one-credit lecture classes will be held at MSTC’s Adams Center, and the Marshfield, Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids campuses on Thursdays from 2:00-3:50 p.m., August 17-October 12, or from October 19-December 12. The fee is $95.35.

Implementing PC Security…Protect Your PC: Personal computer security awareness concepts, principles and implementation procedures will be discussed. Additional topics include the value of securing personal and organizational data along with local, state and federal legislation pertaining to privacy; liability of individuals and institutions in maintaining data confidentiality and integrity; and concepts of risk management, security policies, common threats and threat countermeasures. The two-credit lecture/lab classes will be held at MSTC’s Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids campuses. The class will be offered at two different times at each campus. The fee is $200.70.
 
Stevens Point
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays, August 15-December 14, 10:00-10:50 a.m.
Fridays, August 18-December 15, from 9:00-11:50 a.m.
   
Wisconsin Rapids
Tuesdays, August 15-December 12, 4:00-6:50 p.m.
Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, August 17-December 14, from noon-12:50 p.m.

Introduction to Information Security…Protect Your Company: Computer network vulnerabilities and threats and basic techniques for safeguarding networks will be discussed. Participants will be exposed to network security terms, concepts, technology organization and the legal and ethical issues associated with network security. This class will help students prepare for the Security+ certification exam. Prerequisites include Network Fundamentals 10150101, PC Troubleshooting-Beginning 10150110, or equivalent work experience with consent of instructor. The three-credit lecture/lab class will be held in Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids, Monday and Wednesdays, from 8:00-9:50 a.m., August 14-December 13. The fee is $301.50.
