MSTC Foundation Celebrates 25 Years of Scholarship Distribution
January Scholarship Recipients Announced

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Throughout 2006, the Mid-State Technical College (MSTC) Foundation will celebrate its twenty-fifth year of scholarship distribution according to Chris Maguire, Foundation & Alumni Director. “More than 2,000 students have been assisted through the distribution of over $1.6 million in scholarships during the past 24 years. Our beginning funds were modest, when in 1981, seventeen scholarships were awarded totaling $1,600.”
     
Maguire said students’ academic achievements, pre-entrance test results, extracurricular activities and responses to essay questions are reviewed and assessed by a scholarship selection committee. The MSTC Foundation recently awarded the following scholarships:
     
Mid-Year Scholarship: Five $500 scholarships were awarded to new, full-time students. Recipients include: Megan Christopherson, Mya Dybvik, Amy Guptill, Sara Roberson and Jenna Van de Loo. Christopherson, Stevens Point, and Dybvik and Van de Loo, Marshfield, are enrolled in the Cosmetology & Barbering program. Guptill, Milladore, is enrolled in the Administrative Assistant program and Roberson, Wisconsin Rapids, is enrolled in the Business Administration program.
       
Leonard & Lillian Bethke Transportation Scholarship
: A $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Patrick Pumper, Milladore. Pumper is pursuing a technical diploma in the Automotive Technician program. This award is made available each semester to continuing students enrolled in the Automotive Technician or Diesel & Heavy Equipment programs. In addition, one full-tuition scholarship, with a maximum value of $6,000, is offered annually to graduating high school seniors who enroll in the Automotive Technician program for the upcoming fall semester. Recipients must maintain academic standards each semester to remain eligible for continuation of this award.
       
Mid-State Student Nurses’ Association (MSNA)
: Members of MSNA sponsored a scholarship with matching funds provided by the Foundation in the amount of $500 to Janelle Pumper, Milladore. Scholarship applicants were selected based on their academic history and student organization membership.
